Windblown

“Windblown” is a classical lamp featuring a mahogany stained basswood bass formed to fit traditional standards that serves in contrast to the contemporary material of the shade. The shade is constructed from ⅛” extruded acrylic plastic. This lamp shade is cut from an ivory color to mimic an american flag that is then molded over the bulb to give the Trompe-l'œil feeling of a real linen american flag draped over a lampbulb. It is inspired from civil war era paintings and the frequent iconography of draped and windwhipped american flags in andrew wyeth paintings. “windblown” is a modern take on the multi function use of an american flag often times used as a lamp shade, a symbol of liberty, a symbol of oppression and everything in between.

Anti Phone addiction solution
Anti Phone addiction solution
Design studio II Spring 2026
Assignment: Chindogu, the japanese practice
of unconventional "un-useless" design
Whilst trying to identify what chindogu is at its core, it led me to the belief that it was solving problems in inefficient ways and these inefficiencies (often times absurd) is what leads to the humorous or facetious element of this design philosophy. This led me to trying to figure out how to slow down fast things, make abrasive surfaces rough, and, more importantly, how to make convenient products inconvenient, because this is where I thought that the strongest contrast was hiding. Our phones are convenient, but convenience to a fault can lead to addiction, phone addiction being something that my generation, nihilistically including me, has just accepted as an inevitability. My chindogu device uses the geological to anchor the technological in order to make the slow fast and the convenient a hassle. “Landline” is a device that chains your phone to a boulder or to land through a line. This effect makes the mobile immobile and cures phone addiction through an earthly intuitive manner.
